An example we use in the book is <\/span>the \u201cidea\u201d of the United States. \u201cThe \u201cidea\u201d of the United States of America,\u201d Mary says, \u201cis one that exists as historical \u2018memory,\u2019 a memory of freedom.\u201d We speak of the \u201cevent of memory\u201d and that Memory and love\u2019s longing go together.<\/span><\/p>\n Steve Gilbert, an ACOL reader turned friend, was one of the sparks that found me realizing that we don\u2019t generally associate memory with \u201cThe New.\u201d He was telling me that he\u2019d read my books <\/span>Creation of the New, The Given Self<\/span><\/i>, and <\/span>A Course of Love <\/span><\/i>together \u2026 several times, and of the impact he felt from doing so. I was so surprised and pleased that I went back and read the two short ones: <\/span>Creation of the New<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>The Given Self<\/span><\/i> and then scanned ACOL.<\/span><\/p>\n Doing this was an event, an event of memory. We all have <\/span>events of memory<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I\u2019d not fully realized how consistent the themes of my work have been. \u201cThe New,\u201d that Holy Mary brings so much to the forefront, has been a passion in me ever since Jesus announced the \u201cTreatise on the New.\u201d (2000<\/a>) He told me, \u201cYou have to be \u2018in the new\u2019 to receive A Treatise on the New.\u201d (I\u2019ve found, more than a few times, that what Jesus announces, he sets in motion.) I wrote the mystical <\/span>Creation of the New, <\/span><\/i>in 2007. It\u2019s still a major theme in my writing with Holy Mary.<\/span><\/p>\n Here are a few examples of the way \u201cthe new\u201d is sprinkled throughout ACOL:<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The purging of old beliefs frees space for <\/span>the new<\/b>. It allows your form to reflect what and who you are now in terms that coincide with the \u201cyou\u201d whom you have always been. C: 23.22<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The art of thought <\/span>invites <\/span><\/i>the <\/span>experience <\/span><\/i>of the new thought system by being willing to replace the old with the new. T1:5.13<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n As the old is undone, a vacuum is not created. <\/span>The new<\/b> is created. You are in the process of unmaking what you have made. The old structure is coming down so that <\/span>the new<\/b>, what might be likened to a building with no frame, can rise. What is happening now is happening in unison. As the old goes, the new arrives. \u2026 The old is replaced by the new simultaneously. T2: 4.15-17<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n If you but let go the old, and with it the patterns of behavior caused by fear, <\/span>the new<\/b> will reveal to you all that you would keep and all that you would leave behind. T3:14.8<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n And then he gave us a whole Treatise on the New!<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cI am calling you to <\/span>the new<\/b>. This ending stage of the fulfillment of the way of Jesus is the stage of interaction with the world, the time of miracles, the death of the old way and the birth of the new.
